Community Matters

Foster parents make a difference in the lives of children and the community. Keeping foster children connected to their home communities lessens the loss they face when they enter into care. For this reason, we encourage foster parents to make a dedicated effort to keep children connected to positive supports in their community such as camps, after school activities, sports, summer programs, religious and cultural events.

The ultimate goal of foster care is to reunite youth with their birth families. Keeping children involved in their community helps to support a normative experience while they are in the foster care system.

Foster parenting is about comprehensive care for youth who need it the most. Their communities, filled with familiar faces, places and positive influences, are an indispensable part of this.
